Steal a Brainrot has 72.5 billion lifetime visits and Saturday update spikes that hit 1.5 million concurrent players, making it one of the most-played experiences in Roblox history. But if you’ve been playing without understanding mutations and traits, you’re leaving the majority of your income on the table. A single mutation upgrade can replace the earnings of eleven additional characters. That’s not an exaggeration, it’s exactly how the multiplier math works, and once you see it laid out properly the whole game changes.
This guide covers the full August 2026 mutation and trait system, every multiplier confirmed post-Update 59 (July 25), how traits stack on top of mutations, the best combinations currently in the game, and how values actually work in a game with no official price list.
Mutations and traits multiply, they don’t add. A 10x mutation with an 8x trait is 80x base income, not 18x. And because each extra trait loses 1x from its value, the order you stack them in changes your final number. Always apply your highest-value trait first.
Mutations vs Traits - Understanding the Difference First
Before rankings, the most important distinction in Steal a Brainrot’s value system:
Mutations change a character’s visual appearance and apply a passive income multiplier. Every character has exactly one mutation slot, so you cannot stack mutations. The mutation is applied when the character spawns on the Red Carpet or is obtained through specific events. You can’t manually apply mutations, they’re rolled on the character itself.
Traits are separate multiplier bonuses that can stack on a single character. Multiple traits can be active on the same character simultaneously, creating compound multipliers. Traits are obtained through special events, Admin Abuse sessions, weather conditions, or player-triggered rituals.
The multipliers from mutations and traits don’t add together, they multiply together. Total income = Base income x Mutation Multiplier x Trait Multiplier(s). A character with a 10x mutation and an 8x trait doesn’t earn 18x base income. It earns 80x base income. If you’ve dealt with stacking multipliers in Grow a Garden’s mutation system, the multiply-not-add principle will feel familiar, though Steal a Brainrot’s separate trait layer works differently.
Each extra trait after the first loses 1x from its value, so the second trait is worth 1 less than its base multiplier, the third is worth 2 less, and so on. Stack your highest-value traits first for maximum output.
All 14 Mutations Ranked - August 2026
After Update 59 (July 25, 2026), the best mutation in Steal a Brainrot is Crystal (13x). Mutations are applied once, then traits add more value on top.
Crystal (13x) - Crystal currently sits at the top of this list as the newest and strongest addition, added around July 25, 2026. It displaces Disco as the highest-multiplier mutation in the game. If you have a Crystal mutation on a high-income character, it belongs on your best one without question.
Disco (12x) - Event-locked and rare enough that if you have one, it should go directly onto your highest-income character. A God character earning $300K/sec with Disco applied becomes $3.6M/sec. It drops to second place after Crystal but remains the strongest non-Crystal option and is significantly harder to acquire than the tier below.
Phantom (12x) - Phantom characters turn transparent black with a flashing in-and-out effect and white flashes on their parts, tied to a Phantom event that visibly shifts the whole map. Added June 13, 2026, it’s still extremely sought-after despite Crystal’s release. Available during Phantom event windows, roughly every 30 minutes, or Admin Abuse sessions. Tied with Disco on the multiplier but more accessible through regular event timing.
Cyber (11x) - Cyber characters take on a black-and-blue, semi-transparent cybernetic look with neon patterning. Added in April 2026 and remains one of the more consistently obtainable high-tier mutations thanks to the dedicated Craft Machine. That acquisition path makes Cyber the most farmable top-tier mutation, so if you can’t catch event windows reliably, this is your target.
Rainbow (10x) - Rainbow is the best permanent mutation, giving you the same income boost as Divine without requiring event timing. The key advantage is that Rainbow is always available through normal crate grinding at a 1% spawn rate. No event window required. Chase Rainbow if you grind crates, it’s a 1% roll, it’s permanent, and a Rainbow on any God-tier character is worth serious trade value.
Divine (10x) - Matches Rainbow on multiplier but is event-dependent. Divine is the only mutation that comes with its own Halo trait. The built-in Halo adds meaningful passive value on top of the base 10x, which technically makes a Divine with Halo worth more than a plain Rainbow in practice. The event timing requirement is its main limitation.
Galaxy (6x, 7x during Galaxy events) - The Galaxy mutation normally gives 6x but increases to 7x specifically during Galaxy events triggered by admins. Galaxy is the sweet spot for value-to-cost ratio, because it trades cheaply relative to its multiplier, the gap between Galaxy and the upper-tier limiteds feels small on paper. Best mid-tier trading acquisition if you can’t afford Rainbow or above.
Lava (6x) - Solid mid-tier mutation. Lava outclasses Bloodrot enough that if you have both available, Lava wins every time. Consistent and obtainable without special event timing.
Bloodrot (4x), Gold (3x), Silver (2x), Bronze (1.5x), Rusty (1.25x), Default (1x) - The lower tiers. Bloodrot is genuinely the right call early in the game when your alternatives are nothing or Gold, so don’t sleep on a mid multiplier while your base income is still building. Apply literally anything over Default as soon as possible.
Traits - The Real Multiplier Layer
Traits can stack on one character. Stack the highest-value traits on your best mutation character for maximum income.
The current top traits:
Strawberry (8x) - Available through Strawberry Elephant spawns or Admin Abuse. This is the best trait currently in the game, with the highest multiplier of any trait and the most demand in trades.
Meowl (7x) - Meowl spawns or Admin Abuse. Second-best trait, adds a cat ears visual effect. Widely available enough that stacking Meowl with Strawberry is a realistic target for active players.
Rainbow Balloon (6.5x) - Ultra-rare, Eid Celebration event only. Extremely limited supply makes it a trading status symbol more than a reliable farming target.
Nyan Cat (6x) - Nyan Cat event (rainbow cat flies across sky). Limited availability but more common than Rainbow Balloon.
Fire (5x), Ice (5x) - Weather-condition traits. Stackable and relatively accessible compared to the event-locked tier above. Solid mid-tier trait targets for players building toward the best combos.
Best confirmed trait combinations:
God Tier: OG character + Divine or Rainbow (10x) mutation + Strawberry (8x) + Meowl (7x).
Excellent: Secret character + Rainbow (10x) + Nyan Cat (6x) + Fire (5x).
Good: High-tier character + Galaxy (6x) + Strawberry (8x).
The formula: always stack your highest-value trait first, then descending. The -1x penalty per additional trait means order matters, so never put your 5x trait on before your 8x.
How Values Actually Work
Every Steal a Brainrot value you will ever see is community-set. There is no official value list. The developer has never published trade prices, so every “value” is a consensus number maintained by trading Discords and third-party trackers, and those trackers disagree with each other by 20-40% on any given day.
The two numbers that are actually stable across all sources are income per second (a fixed in-game stat visible on any character’s card) and rarity (tracked by the community Fandom wiki across 510+ unique characters in eight tiers). Everything else, including demand premiums, mutation markups, and OG bonuses, is community consensus that shifts weekly.
The in-game index tracks 510+ unique characters across eight rarity tiers, and the roster grows almost every Saturday. Over 250 of those are Secret-rarity as of August 2026.
The rarity ladder runs Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Secret, then OG. OG characters are the rarest and most valuable, because they were available only during specific early windows and can no longer be obtained through normal gameplay.
Factors that push a character’s value above its base rarity:
Mutations - a Rainbow or Crystal mutation on any character multiplies its trade value significantly regardless of base rarity. A mid-tier character with Crystal is worth more than a high-tier character with Default.
Traits - Strawberry and Meowl in particular add substantial premium. A character with both stacked commands serious trade leverage.
Limited availability - characters that appeared during a single event window and were never re-released carry collector premiums that compound over time as supply decreases.
Exist count - how many of a specific character exist in the game. Lower exist counts on desirable characters push value up. Check the Fandom wiki exist count before agreeing to any significant trade involving a character you’re not familiar with.
Trading - Avoiding Bad Deals
Rarity, actual supply, community demand, limited availability, mutations and recent offers all influence what a character is worth. Check value lists after new events and major updates, as rankings can change quickly when a new Secret, OG or limited character enters the game.
Three rules that prevent most trading mistakes:
Verify mutation and traits before accepting. Make sure the character being offered has the exact mutation, trait or version discussed. The difference between a Rainbow and a Gold mutation on the same character is a 7x income difference, so verify what you’re actually receiving before hitting accept.
Never trade outside the in-game system. Admin Abuse and Saturday update sessions create urgency that scammers exploit. Any trade requiring an external site, Discord DM, or “go first” arrangement is a scam. Use the in-game trade window only. These are the same patterns that catch players out in Adopt Me trading, and they work the same way here.
Check a current tracker before any significant trade. Use the figures here as direction and confirm the live number on a named community tracker or the game’s official Discord before you commit. The official Steal a Brainrot Discord and community value trackers are updated after every Saturday drop, so always use a source updated within the last week for significant trades.
What to Target Right Now
For players actively farming: Crystal is the best mutation in the game as of August 2026. If you can’t catch Crystal’s event window, Phantom and Cyber are the next best targets, Phantom through event timing and Cyber through the Craft Machine. Rainbow remains the best permanent non-event mutation for crate grinders.
For trait farming: Strawberry + Meowl is the best stacking combination available through regular gameplay. Stack them on your highest-mutation character and you’re running one of the strongest income setups in the current meta.
For trading: anchor every negotiation on income per second and exist count, the two numbers that don’t move. Everything else is negotiable based on current community consensus, which you should verify fresh before every significant deal.
The Steal a Brainrot meta shifts every Saturday when the developer drops new characters and occasionally new mutations. Crystal was added July 25, so it’s reasonable to expect further additions before the end of 2026. Check back here as the mutation pool evolves.
